COVID Update 2022

IMPORTANT COVID UPDATE: JANUARY 2022
Tuesday, January 17, 2022

SCCS continues to take precaution and make every effort to remain open. To do this, we ask that you continue to keep the following in mind:

  • Students who have COVID or flu-like symptoms should remain at home.
  • Monitor for symptoms and remain home if you have been exposed.
  • Federal rules require travelers to properly wear masks on all public transportation including school buses. Students who refuse to comply will be suspended from using our bus service.
  • If your child tests positive, contact the office as soon as possible to allow for contact tracing.
  • Students who are vaccinated and symptom-free do not have to quarantine but MUST mask for 10 days.
  •  Students are encouraged, but not required, to retest after the 5-day quarantine. If symptom free, students may return after 5 days, but must wear a mask for an additional 5 days. If a student is unable to wear a mask, he/she should remain at home for a full 10-day quarantine.
  • *Students that return from quarantine will be required to wear a mask the entire school week they return. The mask requirement is for any time the student is around people, not only in class.

Thank you for your support and cooperation with these efforts. More than anything, we want to be here for your children and to provide a safe place for them to learn in the company of their peers. We cannot do it without our wonderful parents and community.

Dear SCCS Families,
Happy New Year! As we return to school it is important to keep the health and safety of all our students and families a main priority. We ask that you continue to monitor for symptoms of illness and COVID-19. If your child is sick, has symptoms or has been exposed to COVID-19 please keep them home. We will continue to sanitize, disinfect, and social distance to the greatest extent possible. Students are encouraged to wear face coverings; however, they will not be required.

Please refer to the following Louisiana Department of Education guidelines for attending school and quarantining after exposure or a positive COVID-19 test:

If You Test Positive for COVID-19
Students, regardless of vaccination status:
• Stay home for 5 days. If you have a fever, continue to stay home until you are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of medication.
• If you have no symptoms or your symptoms are resolving after 5 days retest. You may return to school with proof of a negative test and must wear a face covering for 5 days.
• If you cannot wear a mask at school, quarantine for 10 days.

If You Were Exposed to Someone with COVID-19
Students who have completed the primary series of an mRNA vaccine:
• Wear a mask around others for 10 days. If symptoms develop, please isolate and get tested.
• If you cannot wear a face covering at school, quarantine for 10 days.
• It is recommended that you test after day 5, if possible.

Students who are unvaccinated:
• Stay home for 5 days.
• After 5 days of quarantine, you may return to school if you are asymptomatic, have a negative test, and wear a face covering.
• If you cannot wear a face covering at school, quarantine for 10 days.

Sincerely,
Stephanie Goudeau
